MEMORIAL SQUAD

The Memorial Squad has been established to provide members of the Post with
a presence at their funeral service. In simpler terms, the Squad members are
honorary pall bearers. The members sit in the front left side of the funeral
service. The specific practices are dictated by the type, location and other
specifics.
In addition, the Memorial Squad has been called to varied flag raising events
including the opening of the Dakota County Fair.
Current members include Dick Ashenbrenner, Bernie Eishens, Greg Schuster,
Wayne Larson, Lou Plevell, and Glenn Sell. Three members were lost in the past
year. There are two uniforms, Sept to May, VFW hat and tie, white gloves blue
blazer, gray slacks and black shoes. May to September, blue dickey, VFW short
sleeve shirt. Blazers and shoes are provided by the member, the remainder by
the Post.

The number of servicemen eligible for VFW service significantly
declined with the end of the Draft up to the First Gulf War. The Gulf War vets are
retiring or close to retiring and this is important as members who are working are
usually not available for the Memorial Squad. Hopefully, we will be able to recruit
Squad members from the new members.

It's a great way to be involved in your Post, without a major time commitment to participate. If interested in participating, contact Glen Sell at 651-302-6241.
